COVID-19 Policies & Procedures

Subject:

To mitigate the spread of COVID-19 while keeping our staff and students safe and ready to learn.

Definitions:

ISOLATION: Period of time spent at home for the body to heal from COVID. Isolation lasts a minimum of 10 days with 24 hours of symptom improvement. Isolation cannot be discontinued if symptoms such as fever or productive cough are still present.

NEGATIVE TEST: Completed COVID-19 test which resulted negative. Picture of the negative test result must be sent to the school nurse via email at msouza@adelinemontessori.com.

SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19:

  • Fever above 100.4
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea or three or more loose stools in a day

QUARANTINE: Aims to separate and restrict the movement of people who have been exposed to a contagious disease to watch and see if they become ill. Students will be asked to stay home from school during this time. Typically, it lasts for 10 days but can last for up to 14 days.

Policy & Procedure:

GENERAL COMMUNICATION

  • All COVID communication and recommendations for staff and students will be delivered from the School Nurse. However, if a classroom or building is to shut down, the Head of School will send the message to the appropriate people.
  • Any and all email correspondence regarding COVID or COVID-like symptoms will be sent to msouza@adelinemontessori.com.
  • All email correspondence will use the appendices below.

AMS COVID TESTING

Adeline staff are currently in communication with the DHS to provide a COVID testing site for staff and students who need to get testing. Staff and families will be notified when this is available.

MASKING

  • Staff are asked to wear a mask at all times while indoors over their nose and mouth.
  • Students above the age of 5 are asked to wear a mask.

INFANT & TODDLER CLASSROOMS

  • If a student is displaying multiple symptoms of COVID they will be sent home and require a negative test to return or quarantine for 10 days.
  • If a student has contact with a COVID positive individual the student will need to be quarantined for up to 10 days, if tested between 3-5 days after contact the student can return after a negative test result after 7 days of quarantine.
  • If a positive covid case is reported in the classroom:
    • The individual testing positive will need to be isolated for a minimum of 10 days from the first day of symptoms, with 24 hours of symptoms improvement. The parents or guardians will remain in contact with the School Nurse to ensure a safe return to the classroom.
    • The remaining students and staff will be required to quarantine for 10 days and monitor for symptoms as the students are not masked.

PRIMARY, LOWER/UPPER ELEMENTARY, & MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSROOMS

  • If a student is displaying multiple symptoms of COVID, they will be sent home and required a negative test to return or quarantine for 10 days.
  • If a student has contact with a COVID-positive individual, the student will need to be quarantined for up to 10 days.
    • If tested between 3-5 days after contact, the student can return after a negative test result after 7 days of quarantine.
  • If a student tests positive for COVID, the following will occur:
    • All students in the classroom that do not wear a mask will be required to quarantine for 10 days.
    • Any student that has prolonged contact with the positive student without a mask for longer than 15 minutes while indoors will need to quarantine (for example snack/lunch exposures).
    • The individual testing positive will need to be isolated for a minimum of 10 days from the first day of symptoms, with 24 hours of symptoms improvement. The parents or guardians will remain in contact with the School Nurse to ensure a safe return to the classroom.

SIBLINGS

  • All the above policies are applicable to siblings.
  • If a single child is quarantined, all siblings must quarantine.
